Individuals with communication-related access and functional needs may have difficulty speaking, seeing, hearing, understanding information, or expressing their needs. During an emergency this can make it harder to receive alerts and announcements, read signs, understand instructions, or communicate concerns to others.
Improve Communications to Help the AFN Community
- AC Alert: is Alameda County’s official emergency alert and warning system.
- FEMA: Be Aware. Be Prepared. Take Action: A Guide for Alert and Warnings: Includes hazard-specific actions to take for each alert type —Advisories, Watches, and Warnings
- Ready.gov: Ready in your language : Offers information and materials in languages other than English. You can learn how to prepare before, during and after disasters, including making an emergency plan, building an emergency supply kit, and preparing for individual hazards.
- Listos California: Provides emergency preparedness resources and information in 23 languages for the different types of emergencies and disasters that could occur across the state.
- Alameda County Social Services Agency offers resources and services that may be available to help immigrant families residing in Alameda County.
- FEMA: Disaster Aid Available for U.S. Citizens, Non-Citizen Nationals, Qualified Residents: Provides information on how FEMA and state, territorial, or tribal governments may offer direct and financial assistance to U.S. citizens, non-citizen nationals, and qualified non-citizens during a disaster.
- An Earthquake Preparedness Guide for Blind and Visually Impaired Persons: Assists planning for and responding safely to earthquakes, including practical tips for protection, hazard awareness, and building a personal support network.
